Basketball Shooting

Events:

1. Free Throw Shooting
2. Spot Field Goal Shooting
3. Timed Field Goal Shooting

Participants are encouraged to bring their own balls. Balls must meet the following requirements and may be verified by event staff: 

Men’s Ball: 29.5 inches in circumference (size 7) Min weight 20 ounces to max weight 22 ounces

Women’s Ball: 28.5 inches in circumference (size 6) Min weight 18 ounces to max weight 20 ounces

 

Competitors are assigned to a group starting in one location and then moving as a group through the remaining events as assigned.

The order and groupings for competition will be posted the day of the event. Standings will be updated following completion of each group round.

Each individual event will be awarded 1st through 3rd place. 

 

Free Throw Shooting:

• Competitors will shoot three rounds of 10 shots from the free throw line. 
• Competitors may not step on or over the throwing line while shooting.
• Each successful shot will be worth 1 point.
• All balls will be rebounded by staff for the shooter.
• The final score is the cumulative total of all rounds.
• Tie breaker rules: one additional round of 5 shots to determine the winner or both will be awarded a medal.

 

Spot Field Goal Shooting: 

• Competitors will shoot three rounds of 5 shots, one from each designated spot per round.
• Each successful shot will be worth 1 point.
• All balls will be rebounded by the shooter.
• The final score is the cumulative total of all rounds.
• Tie breaker rules: one additional round of 5 shots to determine the winner or both will be awarded a medal.

 

Timed Field Goal Shooting:

• Participants will shoot three rounds of 1 minute each from any of 6 designated spots.
• Each successful shot is awarded the number of points (1-5) assigned to that spot.
• Participants who attempt a shot from all six designated spots within the time limit receive a 5-point bonus for that round.
• All balls will be rebounded by the shooter.
• The final score is the cumulative total of all rounds.
• Tie breaker rules: one additional round of 30 seconds (no bonus points) to determine the winner or both will be awarded a medal.

 

NOTE: Final rules will be posted at the event. Modifications may include reducing the number of rounds per event to two or adding a time limit, based on volume of registrations. This ensures every registered competitor has an equal opportunity.
